Gradual loss of power. - Models lose power after take off

Hi there,
Could anyone help with this problem please. The model takes off and climbs away perfectly, however, within about 6 or 7 seconds the power dies away and the model pretty quickly returns to Mother Earth. It's very frustrating . I am controlling using a joy-stick at present . I'm running windows98 with a 500 processor and 188megs of ram, on board graphics and sound. Any advice would be welcomed, thanks.
