Joystick stopped working

After attempting to set up Futaba transmitter as controller, and have so far failed, now the regular joystick no longer works with FMS. Suggestions?

FMS only recognises Joystick number 1.
Please make sure that your joystick is the Preferred device
On Windows XP do as follows:
1. Open Control Panel
2. Open 'Game Controllers'
3. Click button 'Advanced ...'
4. Select your Joystick

Shaul, all of my Microsoft flight sim programs still work fine with the Saitek joystick. I tried removing FMS and reloading, but that did not work. I have rebooted the computer and that did not help.
