windows 2000 problems

I have used fms for a few years and been through all the bugs before. But recently after over a year of not playing it I decided to reinstall it and play it again and this time my computer has been nuked(reformatted) with a new partition and all my programs have been reinstalled. The fms screen is slow. I mean the plans jerk along in steps and the graphics are not smooth. Say for examply going down the runway for takeoff. Instead of picking up speed and taking off, the planes move in jerky steps like something in my computer is not updated enough. The planes do not react fast to the sticks like they should. The planes are overall much slower flying and reacting.

I got direct x 8 or 9. I have the proper drivers installed for other things to operate properly. I got internet explorer 6 or 7 and all the windows updates have been put in. Now this computer itself is a different one and i have never played fms on this one. But I got a laptop that also has 2000 pro and i have used it and it worked well. I did a google searchj trying to find system requirements for fms to see if there was a game driver I did not have reinstalled but couldn't find much. Can anyone help? I have never seen fms act like this before. Oh and by the way, I did get the tx configured and the lpt1 port channel interupt set and I can succesfully calibrate the tx. And I got the beta 6 or 7 version. i have tried all the versions betas and alphas and they are all the same. Cory

Check the laptop's Bios. Just to make sure it's set on maximum
for share memory. It might be set lower to save battery run time.

Also check to see if you're running on power saver, even if you're
plug in. I get a sort sticky or slower FPS rates if I run on power saver.

You shouldn't need much to run FMS.
It ran perfect on intel III and a voodoo when I first mess with FMS.
That pc was only a 256 ram, 400mhz or basically .5 gig processor.lol
2.8 photofield...ect. it ran perfect.
That's why I thought it was kind of retarded that faster PC wouldn't
run FMS right.lol

I'm not sure what it is exaclty...some pc gets bottle neck at the
vedio driver. I had a dell TOWER. 1 Gig ram, intel IV platium
almost 2 G...I think. It had sometype of intergrated vedio chip.
There's wasn't a vedio card in it , that's for sure.
It had the same problem you're stating.
You would think..it would do better.
I can get to run better , if I run it in a smaller window.

I also have another Compaq LT , intel IV, 512 RAM, ..not sure what vedio card. XP...no problems of any sort. No matter what version.

I have 2Gig processor, 1G RAM,vista, nvdia 6150 (128mb share memory).
It had that stupid flashing just for FMS..but i kind of fixed it for photofield.
It runs G4 and all the other sims almost perfect.
The only thing i have to turn off is clouds on some of the 3d scenery
for the G4. Other than that I get 50-60 of FPS rate.
It gets 60 FPS on FMS..steady, no matter what I do.

You might try shuting off all the start up program..that might be
runing without your knowelge. It's start up when window starts
an slow down your pc. Maybe clean the resgistry, cookies..etc.
If you're not on line...just disable the anti virus software.
Anit virus will slow on older pc down a lot, a lot.

You actaully might be better off runing 2.8.
The engine for 2.8 is not as powerful as 2.7 thereby allowing less 3D objects.

However...the 2.8 has on option to turn off FIX camera option.
It will allow the model to float away from the center of the screen,
therefore you won't notice slight flicking of the back ground image
as much. When you keep the model at the center of the screen
it's driving your vedio card to generate different back ground images
more, because the back ground image shifts...not the model.
The model stays FIX to the center of the screen no matter what.
Dose that make sence ?
Photofield require less power becuase it's just a back drop.
3D sceneries requires more power becuase there's more 3D objects.

In other words a skybox (scenery protection)..is just 1 BOX (object).

I may try my laptop. It always worked great on it before. This puter in question is my desktop. I never had tried fms on this puter before. i had used my ex wifes xp system when we were still married. So maybe it is something with this desktop I got. I bet my laptop will do fine as it always did in the past. Cory
