JR421EX radio / windows 7 / FMS

Hi,

I am unable to get FMS to recognize my JR radio. I have purchased a serial port to USB cable but no luck. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

So what exactly type of interface are you using to connect your radio ? A serial - USB cable isn't enough.

Steve,

I have the cable that cane with the software. It connects to the radio and is a parallel plug on the other end. I have a desktop running windows 7 so I purchased a parallel to USB adapter cable. I also purchased a mono cable that connects to the mic jack for this machine without any luck. I also have a laptop that has XP SP2 with a serial and and parallel port. I have an adapter that allows me to connect my original cable to the serial port. No luck there either. I can't get either computer to see the radio.

Since I don't know where you got the software or cable from that isn't really very informative. However the old (very very old) parallel interfaces for FMS were extremely non-standard and AFAIK cannot be made to work with USB or any recent operating systems.

Your best bet is to buy a USB interface. They're readily available on EBay and elsewhere for peanuts (typically $10).

Alternatively the sound card input should work if you've installed SmartPropoPlus to go with it. I've had most luck using the Line In rather than Mic inputs with various Futaba/JR/Spektrum Txs.

You should also make sure you have the latest version of FMS, V2 Alpha 8.5. It works much better than earlier ones.

Steve,

I purchased the FMS software and cable together V2.0 When I originally installed the program (probably 6 or 7 years ago) I was using either Windows 98 or ME for an operating system. At that time it was truly a simply plug and play install. Is the cable you mentioned a mono jack on one end and USB on the other? I will try the other things you suggested today.

Thanks,

Jim
