FMS won run, after mb/cpu upgrade

FMS won run, after mb/cpu upgrade

Postby Scarz » Sun Jan 23, 2011 4:11 am

fms wont run after upgrading to athlon X2 7550 - biostar mcp6pb m2+ motherboard. still running XP...

it doesent give any specific message, just the usual microsoft send report.

i suspect it may be trying to use a memory address, which may be occupied by other resources?

any ideas?

Does your new motherboard have a COMx port? If so, is it enabled in BIOS? -- ggunners

ggunners,
well i searched throuht the bios, i didnt find any COMx options.
i usually diable all the serial ports, printer ports, in order to keep resources free
i havent messed witn any memory timings, or over clocking
other than that, the bios is at default.
my joystick used the usb

FMS 2 alpha 8.5 needs a com port defined in the registry. If your mobo has one, turn it on. If not, a USB to 9-pin serial is the simplest addition. Another option is to create a virtual COM port. There are several methods for this with details in the forum. Search for ecomport. -- ggunners

Hey ggunners, your the man, (GURU).

i found a virtual ser port prog, that works, called .
Use at your own disgression though...
it runs it self when windows starts, and stays running after you quit.
im suspitious of it might be sending data out somewhere into cyberspace.

thanks for the advice, this should be on the sticky list.

There are already several sticky posts regarding virtual com ports or "ecomport" errors. -- ggunners

i probably read them, but didnt give them a second thought, because before i upgraded
on my old mobo, i had all the ser ports disabled as well, and never had any problems,
so i didnt think that, that was gonna be the problem.

thanks

Yeah, a lot of older mobos had COM ports, some wtih modems too. Once the COMx port was defined in the registry, FMS was happy. -- ggunners
