New user needs help

Postby TWRES » Fri Mar 25, 2011 8:05 pm

I am new to this FMS stuff.
Is there a site I can go to that explains the functions of each joystick/slider on the transmitter?
Thanks

In the US, we have a mode 2 transmitter for airplanes. All channels but throttle are auto-centering.

Left stick upward(push) throttle up, downward(pull)throttle down.
Yaw = Left stick left, rudder left, right, rudder right
Pitch = Right stick upward(push), elevator down, downward(pull), elevator up
Roll = Right stick left, aileron left, right, aileron right

On a 3 channel transmitter, there is sometimes a throttle slider and a single stick.

On a 3 channel rudder, elevator, throttle airplane, rudder could be mapped to the aileron stick.

In FMS, once you have mapped the airplane controls, you just copy the same numbers and check boxes to the helicopter controls. -- ggunners

This simulator was recommended to me by a tech at HobbyKing. I bought it for my 10-year old son who is interested in starting to use RC planes. I have just plugged it in to give it a whirl before I give it to my son on Christmas and see that it is very difficult! I found this post, but am so new to this (and my son is even more new) that I don't understand what any of the terms outside throttle are. Does anyone know if there's a manual that explains "pitch," "yaw," "roll" and "aileron" so I can explain this when my poor child is pulling his hair out???

Probably better to Google "aircraft flight controls". That will get you pages like http://www.esparacing.com/sport_pilot/h ... rcraft.htm or http://www.bmfa.org/faq/rc/flight_controls.html which should help.

And if you want to know how those controls map to the "transmitter" try http://www.bmfa.org/faq/rc/radio_primary.html or Google "RC transmitter modes"
