Interface for Futaba 6XAS - Question on 6 Pin Din Connections

I am going to build the interface cable as described by Heliguy, but it is unclear to me what the connections should be for the Tx Signal and the Tx Ground. It appears from the pic on the heliguy site that the Tx connection goes to more than 1 pin (or is that just a lump of solder??). Also - is it necessary to remove the crystal from the radio?? Is the ground wire supposed to map to a specific pin on the DIN connector, or just be soldered to the rim of the connector? Any help is appreciated! Thanks,
