Shielded cover? - OK to connect PIN 18 to hood shield?

Hi,

I want to get shielded (metal) hood to see if it helps all the jitter in my interface. Does it makes sense to connect Pin 18 (ground) to the hood? Or is it best to just install the metal hood without connecting it to anything?

I am using the interface with one 10Kohm resistor and one transistor, as described at

I did connect pin 18 to the metal hood, and this seems to have reduced the "jitter" in the interface somewhat.
