Walker 4 ch serial port interface to XP - My XP isn't recognizing the com1

Can someone help me configure my Windows XP serial port so that it recognizes the Walker 4ch Transmitter in order for me to run FMS Simulator I have downloaded? The simulator works with keyboard, but when I change contoller to joystick mode, it doesnt recognize that the trasmitter device is plugged in. XP does come back with "new hardware found" then "hardware loaded". I then go into Control Panel - Game Controller where I assume to pick one of the dozen preconfigured driver choices in XP. I have selected and added a couple different 4 channel names and even tried customize (4 ch 0 buttons). It adds to my permanent choice of game controller devices, but the Status says "not connected".

I don't see any conflicts for IRQ and com1 appears to be avaible and enabled.
