problemwith an old joystick for an rc simulator

I've had this old remote that plugs into the computer for and ooold rc simulator program(which I lost) I think it was was from like 1998 or so pretty old, I got it to work on this simlulator but it the controls are very out of control? also Im not very educated on any of this the joystick plugs in with a 15 pin plug is that a serialport it plugs into?
