Do I need to turn on the remote transmitter...?

Hi,

I am using cyclone 6ch transmitter to fms. I can setup and already use it. I love it very much since I can try before buying the real micro electric helicopter (I borrow my cousin transmitter).

But, I found that I do not need to turn on the transmitter in order to use it via trainer port to fms. Is this ok? I prefer that way, since I can save the battery, and transmitter no need to work (I assumed that because the power of transmitter is off).

Anyone can give comments.
