Just got a Simulator 6-channel Dynam control (like a transmitter) & cable with FMS software. I intend to crash this cheap way before buying a real heli!
Have got it working in general by following various posts in this great forum.

But I have some very basic system setup questions:

What is the normal way to set up a heli R/C control transmitter? I would expect:
Left hand stick fore & aft = collective
Left stick side-to-side= foot pedal = tail rotor = turn aircraft
Right stick fore & aft = aircraft nose pitch up/down
Right stick side-to-side = aircraft bank left / right.
Is this correct?

FMS calls nose pitch up & down - "Nick", right?
FMS calls collective - "Pitch", right?

Where is heli throttle on FMS?

Where is throttle normally on a heli R/C transmitter?

On the top right of this transmitter is a knob marked Gear/Pit - what is that used for? It controls channel 5 proportionally.

On the left side top is a switch called 5CH/Gyro - it controls channel 6 On/Off. What is that normally used for?

There is a switch called Mix On/Off. What is that for, and how should I use it as a learner.

What a bunch of questions, but I would appreciate help with them.

Mikey,
Normally the main controls of a transmitter and most simulator control boxes that look like a transmitter (hereafter xmiter) two sticks that control four functions in a helicopter or aircraft.

I use two simulators . . . FMS and ClearView. Unfortunately, for me, I have an E_sky USB controller that does not work with FMS.
Anyway, xmiters are set up as either mode 1 or mode 2.

In mode 2 the left stick controls throttle/collective in a 4 channel helicopter moving the stick toward the top of the xmiter increase and at the bottom is the least. Left or right movement causes the helicopter to rotate around its vertical axis left or right.

The right stick, again we're talking about a mode 2 setup, when pushed toward the top is the equivalent of changing cyclic pitch and moves the helicopter forward. When pulling that stick toward the bottom of the controller moves the bird backwards. Moving the stick left causes the bird to move to the left without rotation and moving it the other way cause it to move right. Normally a helicopter does not bank per se'.

In the Korean vintage Sikorsky and Piaseki choppers the pilot sat in the left seat his left hand on a lever that moved up and down controlling collective pitch. On the end of that lever, where you gripped it, was a rotatable grip that controlled the throttle. The feet on two 'rudder pedals' controlled the anti-torque tail rotor. The right hand rested on a joy stick called the 'cyclic' control which moved the bird in the direction that the stick moved.

As I've only messed with four channel RC birds so I can't answer your other questions.

And yes, simulation is the way to fly before committing your bird to the air.

Good luck and have fun,
Katana
