DX5e will not work with FSM

I have a DX5e transmitter and I am trying to get it to work with my laptop(XP) and FMS. I purchased a USB adapter model FSA FS-SM100. The computer recognizes it as a Human Interface Device only. I accessed the game controllers under the control panel and it shows PPM. When I try and calibrate it in windows it only comes up with one joystick and 12 buttons. Any ideas what i am doing wrong?

The DX5e must not be switched on ? And it's a bit fussy about exactly what connectors you use with it. If your interface has a standard MONO 3.5mm jack it should be o.k. but the DX5e really doesn't like the stereo jacks that some interfaces have, though they work o.k. with other Spektrum TXs.

Thanks for the reply, it did not seem to make any difference for the power switch. IT came on automatically when the plug was inserted in the trainer port. Still brings up PPM in controllers on the windows page.
