The transmitter probably has to be on to make that work, otherwise, no signal would come out of the transmitter.

I could be wrong.

Remember to check the Windows - Control Panel - Game Controllers and make sure you can calibrate there before
trying to use it with FMS.

Im running Windows 7 and there isnt game controllers settings. When I plug usb from tx in it showed USB input device is working, but in fms it doesnt show up as joystick, neither in other simulators such as clearview etc.

I found this on the Microsoft support site. It says there is a Game Controllers icon. Perhaps Win7 does not think it is a game controller. Check under Device Manager and see if it has a question mark "?" next to your controller. -- ggunners

-----------------------

Before you use the controller or joystick with the game, make sure your joystick or other controller is:

1. Plugged into your computer.
2. Enabled in Microsoft Windows 7 Control Panel.
3. Calibrated properly.

To calibrate the controller, follow these steps:

1. Make sure to connect the joystick or other controller correctly to the computer. Check connections to determine that they are not loose.

2. Click "Start." Select the "Control Panel." Locate the "Game Controllers" icon and double click on it. Highlight the controller that you wish to calibrate from the list. Click "Properties" for the same.

3. Click the "Test" tab at the top of the Properties box. First test your controller to make sure it is working.

4. Choose the "Settings" tab on the "Properties" box. Select the "Calibrate" button. Windows launches the Device Calibration Wizard at this point.

5. Work your way through the steps of the Calibration Wizard. Follow the directions and press "Next" when you complete the directions.

6. Center the controller. Press a button without touching the controller. Next the Wizard asks you to move the controller in all directions to calibrate the x-axis and y-axis of the joystick. Push a button on the joystick once more. Your computer can now calibrate the full range of motion for your joystick. It also knows where the center point is.

7. Uninstall the controller and reinstall it if the calibration process doesn't work. Repeat the steps to calibrate the controller/joystick

If there is a problem in Device Manager under USB ports, then sometimes a simple solution can be to use a different USB port.

FMS appears to be running and the model responds to keyboard controls but the graphics are not functioning properly. The model is linked to the horizon by a bar of colour and only half the triangles are painting in the background. I am on Windows XP with an nvidia 512 Mb graphics card. Direct X and graphics card drivers are up to date. I have tried Alpha 8.5 and Beta 7 versions, result is the same. Any ideas? I am keen to make it work as it is obviously just what I need.

zoha,

You will need an upgraded video card. It may be tough to find one that will work with your PC graphics card bus. If you have a laptop, you'll need a new one. If you have a PC, make sure and get an AMD video card, not an Nvidia, with at least 1Gig of memory, cost will be $50 - $100. There are known problems with Nvidia and FMS.

One other option would be to try out the BMI Flight simulator (latest version of RC Flight Simulator) as there are lots of models for it and it works better with newer versions of Windows.

Hope you get things working. The last FMS update was in 2004, so, it is amazing that it still works, of a sort, 10 years later.
