How to get Helicopter working in FMS for Win 7 using USB por

I have Windows 7 (SP1) 32 bit and a Nvidia Geforce 9800GT Graphics Card, and have the Transmitter connected by the "Trainer" port to a "USB" port (Windows 7 assinged it a "Widegoose@live.cn driver").

You will need the "d3drm.dll" if using Windows 7.
To download this, follow the instructions at the post "Re: Help with Simulator installation" in this Forum, Click on the link to "RC Groups", then Scroll down to the 4th post, it is by by "westkyracer", and click on the download link for "d3drm.zip"
download, and Install to "FMS" directory.

If you Have an Nvidia Graphics card, you will also need to download, the "ApplicationCompatabilityToolkitSetup.exe", please see the post "Fix Found! FMS on NVidia for Win7/Vista" in this Forum, and click on the 'Microsoft" link to download the file, then follow the instructions in the post to set it up correctly.

I have a "Twister" Medivac, Bell 47, Helicopter, it came with a "Planet" T5, 5 Channel (Mode 2) Advanced 2.4GHz Transmitter, and USB Trainer cable.

NOTE: Channel 5 (Lights on/off) does not work with the FMC Sim or USB interface.
NOTE: "Mode 1" Transmitter has Throttle on "Right" stick, "Pitch" on Left Stick.

Go to "Controls", select "Joystick Interface", select "Mapping/Calibration"
Settings used:

This took me over 6 hours of "trial and error" testing to get this right.

Controls assigned as follows:
Mapping:
Rudder: 6
Elevator: 4
Alieron: 5
Throttle: 3
Tail: 6
Nick: 3 (must be set same as "Throttle" or will have NO "Pitch" control !)
Roll: 2
Pitch: 4
NOTE: no "Inv" or "Exp" check boxes are checked

Channels:
1: Throttle (Linked to Channel 4, moves "UP" when Channel 4 moves DOWN)
2: Roll (right stick - move left to roll left - move right to roll right)
3: Pitch (Right Stick - Move up to go forwards - down to go backwards)
4: Throttle (Left Stick - Move up to increase - down to decrease)
5: (Not Used)
6: Yaw (Left Stick - move left to rotate nose left - move right to rotate nose right)
7: (Not Used)
8: (Not Used)

Flight Tested in "FMS Flight Sim", and all controls work the same way with the R/C model !.

Using these settings, once setup for 'FMS Flight Sim" you can also use your Transmitter to control models in other Flight Sims, I have tested this in "Microsoft Flight Sim X", with the 'Accelleration" addon installed, using the default "Bell 206B JetRanger" Helicopter model, and it works great.

NOTE: For "Setup and Callibration" using the "widegoose@live.cn" driver, sets to the following:
Z axis: Pitch
X Rotation: Yaw
Y rotation: Roll
Z Rotation: Throttle

NOTE: The Switch for channel 5 (set to "SloW") moves the Y Rotation slowly (increases for "On" - decreases for "OFF"), has no function in Flight Sims - leave in "Off" Position.

Best wishes, dhgomm.

Usually, once you find the correct channel numbers for airplanes, you can copy them in the same order for helicopters.

Hi,
Does that mean I can just change Alierons to 2, the same as roll, and keep Throttle and Nick at 3, Elevator and Pitch the same at 4, and Rudder and Tail the same at 6, so I can use these settings to fly planes too ?.

Best wishes, dhgomm.
