serial setup in win2k

Hello,

After building the PIC interface according to the docs, I discovered that the serial port on my windows2k pc has the RTS line to -12V.

To make the interface work, I removed the RTS connection and placed there a 9V battery. Of course, I'd prefer to power the interface from the serial port itself, but I do not know how to set the individual lines of the RS232.

Could someone be so kind and explain how to set these lines in Win2k?

The RTS pin is indeed used for powering of the PIC interface. You have propably measured the pin without FMS running in the background.

When FMS starts and the PIC Serial Interface is selected, FMS will set pin 7 (TRS) to a positive voltage, and pin 4 (DTR) to a negative voltage. There should be no need to use an external power supply if you measure more than 4.5V between pins 7 & 5 (with FMS running)
