PIC interface - Develop a PIC interface

I want to develop my own PIC interface. Just a few quick questions / assumptions :

The PIC "reads" the PPM signal and then says a signal was "high" for a certain period.

Is this length of time then converted to a 8-bit value between 0 and 255 and sent to the PC ?

I assume that 130 (or around there, should be neutral) ?

Is this the correct approach ?

Hi Kenneth

Have a look on my web page under interfaces. You will find documentation, diagrams and source code regarding the development of such an interface that I designed. It includes both Serial PIC and Joystick interfaces.

The serial protocol is as follow:

19200 baud: (values in Hex)
---------------------------
FF Ch1, Ch2, ...., Ch8

9600 baud:
-----------
F0 + n, 00, Ch1, Ch2, ...., Chn, where n = nr of channels supported. 00 is for extra buttons, but is not supported under FMS, thus leave aqs 00.

Example: For a 4 Ch, use F4, 00, Ch1, Ch2, ...., Ch4
