It won't work on a 2313. The 2313's 2kB flash is too small for the code, you'll need at least 5 kB, though we're working on making it smaller now. The new target processor will be the ATMega8L, I doubt that you can go smaller; 4k maybe, but never 2k. It's a pity, the 2313 would be great for it otherwise.
About releasing the source: I'm hesitating a bit with it because it's far from finished and partially poorly documented.

I think that 26-29 $ is a good price for a USB kit. You won't get much cheaper when buying the parts yourself (except you'd make, say 100 of 'em...)...
To Ken: what's the problem with JR radios? I don't have any of these, so...

JR radios have a very low output, it is tipically 1.5v and is AC coupled so it will only be going 0.75v above ground, your ATmel design I looked at seems to been developed using a Futaba or similar radio which outputs a 0 to +9v signal, hence the resistor and zener diode on the input.

Code size is about 5k and needs about 512 Bytes of RAM. (Yes one could save some RAM by moving data from RAM to FLASH by increasing required flash by this amount).
We a are looking to redesing to whole board using an ATMega8. Redesign will only be done upon request

But this interface works with JR/Graupner Transmitters, too.
I'm using it togheter with my mc-24. The only thing you have to do is to remove the HF-Part and plug onto it's connector.
By the way you would remove the HF-Part in every case to increas battary life time form about 4 hours to 14 hours
