Problems with xmitters - xmitters not working in either XP or ME

I have installed the FMS in both Win ME and XP. I have been able ot configure my Wingman Extreme stick on the ME PC and the sim runs with the keyboard commands on the XP. I have 2 transmitters (1 Futaba and 1 Zhen-hua) but neither one is communicating on either PC in either comm mode. Yes the xmitters have batteries and I have gone through all of the forum and FAQs I could find. The Futaba interface is parallel and works fine with another simm called Backyard Flyer. I really like FMS (for helicopters especially) and need to know what is wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated.
