Diagram/photos - Newbie wants to play

I would like to biuld my own interface. Which is the best connection method to try, serial or parrallel? I have Futaba T6XA and a FM Conquest transmitter. They both have buddy box connections that look the same. I've tried to understand diagrams such what you see,
but I'm stumped when it comes to understanding circuit codes and meanings. I need photos that shows things like: "red wire to pin 6" . Anyone know of an easily understandable site with good pics a newbie can follow? What parts do you have to purchase? I understand some resisters are to be aquired. Well any help you provide to this greenhorn is sure appreciated.

Use the audio interface driver & cable is far easier to build
2 wires, 1 resistor 10K, 1x 5 pin din plug (depending on your receiver) 3.5mm stereo plug & cover - cost is minimal, build time is also quite short depending on your skill level.
