FMS 2.0 alpha 8.5 doesn't work

I get the message "FMS.exe has encountered a problem..." when trying to run FMS 2.0 alpha 8.5 on my winXP-machine (it installed ok). I have also tried the alpha 8.3, (which came with the helicopter, Robins 22). Same problem with that version...

I have checked other threads but they don't seem to fit my problem (or they are too technical for me to understand properly..)

Please help me. (I'm not a computer wiz, so anything complicated would have to be explained using a step-by-step description...)

PS. The hand unit is connected via USB, if that is of any consequence to my problem.
