HELP!! Attack of the Black Screen!

Help! When I start FMS on my new Laptop, all I can see is a Black screen. I have installed directx8.1 and i have updated my video card. I am running windows ME. I have successfully installed it on windows 2000 with the same problem but I fixed it somehow but now dont remember. I have a desktop at home which is running ME and FMS works great on that. Any Ideas? HELP PLEASE

It might be worth a trying setting the resolution down...

- Have you run the dxdiag to test if your graphics accelerator is working ok?
- There are settings on dxdiag to enable/disable 3d hardware accelaration. Try toggling the values and retry fms.
-Try running it in Full screen mode.
Also try downloading the Alpha version since that does help in some situations.
