Windows XP problems! - JR controller wont work

I have recently downloaded FMS and it works with my JR remote control on my Pentium 3 800mhz computer, but its frames per second rate is realy slow which makes the simulator not run smoothly. After getting sick of this i loaded it onto my laptop which has windows XP. It's frames were a lot quicker and it runs really smooth, but the problem is XP is not letting me control it with my remote control, which plugs into the printer port (LPT1)

The old parallel port adaptors will not work with Win XP. OTOH I can't imagine what's wrong on the P3 800 as it runs fine on my old 350Mhz job.

I am running FMS with Win98 on a Pentium II, 350 MEricHz system, and had the same problems. I had a 8MB vidoe card, and it just could not keep up with the program, getting around 6 - 10 frames/sec.

After replacing the video card with a Riva TNT II (32 MB), frames increased to around 15 frames/sec, better, but still not good enough. After upgrading to DirectX 8.1, all problems were solved, and i'm getting about 25 frames/sec.
