The shadow for any of the models is surrounded by light grey square, also the trees have black background.
Can anyone help?

It's your video card driver problem, no doubts. I have FMS flying on all 3 of my home PCs: two are desktops with ATI and Woodoo cards--no problems at all. The third one is and old IBM Thinkpad laptop with cheesy Trident video chip, which exhibits visual problems just like yours.
If your video card is old, and no new drivers are available--you are out of luck. Try buying a 2-years old card at eBay, ฮ at most.

I have the exact same problem with a relativly new 3D Prophet 4500 card. I am running Windows 2000 with all available service packs / updates (including DirectX 8.1) from mc-softy's. I am also running the latest version of display drivers from Hercules. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Does anyone have any idea what causes it?
