Interface wont find com3? - its not working

Okay I just got my interface it is a USb port one and it says to hook it up install the driver for it and install the program so I did I am runing windows ME and it says to go to Control panel and go to device manager and expand the ports (com & LPT)said this would open the serail port Com3.

and then says to open FMS and go to serail pic interface and chose Com3

but my comeputor dont have com3 it only has a com1 why dont mine have com3 and will it not work w/o com3 does it have to be com1? anyone? Please help I have waited a week for this thing and now it wont work.
