Building own landscapes - Can someone show or tell me the HowTo?

Sorry, but as a newcomer I didn`t find the section with the description of making own landscapes until know. I really would like to model DAVOS and the adjacent valleys and mountains. Can someone give me a hint where to look and which software ist necessary?
