Turning RF OFF - How do you turn RF off

HI - I'm using a Futaba Challenger with the Parallel port interface.
Apart from removing the Crystal, Which I believe will Kill the RF output, Is there a way to do this via the buddy box connector socket. I assume that the "trainer" box does not emit RF when being used in a buddy box situation, therefore it would seem that there must be a way to disable it via this socket ? -Removing crystals everytime does not seem to be a good idea as this may make a "loose fit" over time

Unfortunately removing the crystal is the only safe guaranteed way. Real buddy boxes don't usually have either a crystal or a battery (except JR) so it's no problem when training.

Some Futaba Txs will switch RF off if they are externally powered (e.g. if there is power on Pin 1). Some will switch RF off if pins 4&5 are shorted (but it could potentially damage others). Try these if you like, but they may not work and it is AT YOUR OWN RISK.

If the crystal is removed does the RF stop altogether or is it still transmitting on some unspecified frequency?

It stops completely. The bit that produces the RF (called an oscillator) cannot do anything without the crystal in there.
