Have anyone got the serial interface to work on XP

Have anyone gotten the Serial interface to work on XP, i have tried a few IO proggs, but i dont understand what they are talking about, so i wonder if anyone can post a solution, or do i have to trach this cable and buy one for G2, at the moment i think FMS sucks big time.....

If you mean the original simple serial interface which is only intended for use with Win 95/98/ME then it does not work with Win XP.

And you can't blame it on FMS, it was Microsoft who changed the operating system to prevent it working.

The kernel for XP is based on the Windows NT kernel and as such does not allow direct control of the hardware, this is to get the OS to conform to security standards, thus preventing people hacking the system by modifying the i/o routines. It basically means that all access to the ports must go via the Hardware abstarction layer (HAL), and thus FMS can not control the ports the way it does under the lower grade OS's.

got to the website: you'll be able to
buy the Serial Interface that will work with Win$ XP home edition!

If you check the interface you are talking about it is not the serial interface, but the pic version and this just connects to the serial port. The software does not control this interface the same way as it does the serial interface that consists of discrete components only ( ie transistors, resistor etc).

I also have the FMS software and running on XP. It said on the site it was compatible with XP so I purchased it and it won't work. Anyone have any ideas

It could worthwhile checking the protocol the interface uses, you may have selected the wrong one.
