computer lock - serial-interface + futaba ppm

Hello all!
Has anyone out there experienced computer lock-down (remedied only by re-installation of Win98) after installation of the serial port cable to a futaba radio. Everything worked fine for about three days...then the computer started having troubles booting, then finally it would only start up in 'safe' mode. I'm running beta 7 version of fms, serial cable interface, and Win98. Any ideas? Thanks!
