hitec eclipse 7 - interface connection

I have a serial interface lead for the Hitec Eclipse 7, but it can only be used with the transmitter powered up. I believe there may be a wrong connection in the Tx plug. My questions are;
Is it harmful to have the Tx switch on while using FMS.
Would somebody be able to supply a simple wiring diagram for the plug that plugs into the Tx.

With most transmitters, except JR, the transmitter must be turned on for the interface to work correct. There are some transmitters that will power up only the coder part of the transmitter, but I am not sure if this is the case with the Eclipse 7.

It is suggested that you remove the crystal from the transmitter when using it with any interface. The two main reasons is:
- With the antenna retracted, there is a impedance mismatch on the transmitter, and although not serious, prolonged use under this conditions could damage the transmitter.
- Battery will last much longer, as only the coder part of the transmitter will draw current.

This is the connection that I have for the Eclipse 7.

As Eric says apart from JR transmitters need to be switched on to work with a sim. This is different from use as a buddy box which doesn't need to be switched on because it can take power from the other transmitter.

If your lead has the link between 4 & 5 that prevents it from transmitting. It does basically the same thing as taking the crystal out.
