Joystick problem - FMS does not see joystick

I am using FMS version 2 Beta 6 on Windows 98. I use an Ikarus (similar to Gamebird) R/C joystick. This joystick has 4 axis and one button which is configured in Windows Control Panel and calibrated, but FMS indicates no joystick detected when I select joystick control.
Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Is it calibrated with the Joystick applet in Windows control panel.?? or is there a special Ikarus applet or app in which you are calibrating the controller with..??
