I am building the PIC serial interface but I don't know which PIC12C508 to order?? There are part numbers: PIC12C508T-04/SM, PIC12C508T-04E/SM, PIC12C508/JW, PIC12C508/SC, etc. Which part number is used for the PIC interface???

You can use any of them - but note that it has to be programmed. Microchip have designs on DIY programmers if you do not want to buy one. The 'JW' device is an erasable version used for program development. The others are OTP (one time programmable) - so you get just one chance to program it right. 'SM' is surface mount, 'P' is DIL etc.
If you want aready built PIC interface go to my website on and to RC Projects>FMS. I also have detailed setup instructions there.
