SmartPropo Futaba 5 pin....

Postby RightcoastRC » Tue Nov 22, 2005 10:59 pm

ok, ive looked for some info on this, im trying to build a cable for my Futaba Radio that has a 5 pin Buddy conector, to use with Smartpropo dll, and cannot find reliable info in english anywhere, can someone please help?

Using WinXP SP2, and cannot spend the money right now to buy a TX to USB cable like I want, I need a simple, cheap to build fix.

It's easy

Image

Pin 1 is signal
pin 2 is gound

solder a 10k 1/4w resistor between pin 1 and 2

wire pin 1 to the tip conector on a 1/8" mono phono plug
wire pin 2 to the shank pin

done!

As there are different Futaba connectors, and a 5 pin can be a 6 pin with the center missing, please refer to this for the transmitter connection, and to the fms doc and the forum for various cable configurations.

The resistor is not always needed. You may try without. I recommend using the Line-In input if you do not have a resistor because of its lower sensitivity.

Ok I built an interface, and I can now get my models to respond to my Tx, now it doesn't seem to be calibrating correctly, but shortly after i got it working, the Tx battery died, may the low batt be a cause to the calibration problems?

Perhaps. I'd recommend taking a look at that SmartPropoPlus troubleshooting guide once your Tx battery is full.

Thanx, it is working great now, except that every once in awhile, the controls seem to throw to max at random, especially throttle, but I can fly just fine....

Yes, I'm aware of similar complaints, but since it happens with only some models, I tend to blame FMS. If Michael will tell me that he's sure it is not I will go back to test SPP.

Start the audio PPM 'thermometer' with the same cable, i.s.o. starting fms, and look at your channels.

It crossed my mind Phil. But this will only tell him that the Tx is OK, and this is obvious. He will be able to tell were the problem is - SPP, FMS or the model. Please correct me if you disagree.

This test will check the tx, the cable with its connectors, the audio card or component on the mother board, and Windows functions up to the value passed in the callback to the soft.
So we get access to a point 'before' SPP and FMS.
There could of course also be small differences in the manipulation of the values in the programs, and in the display (frequency).
My soft also shows hits from time to time, which I attributed to a bad connection or an inadequate signal level, but I do not have a final explanation.
Let's do the test, it's just starting a program!
