Create plane

Postby harry3 » Mon Feb 09, 2004 11:09 am

Hi!

I'm new to FMS. It's a really great sim, and it's FREE!!!
I was also suprised that there are that many add-ons available for FMS.

I've also got an idea of a model I want to build for FMS. Are there anywhere some docs and tuturials where you can find information on how to build planes? How to edit the *.x files? If I'm not completly wrong, those files are the model files(for graphics). Which software can I use to work with them? I've tried it with Autodesk Software, but didn't work.
Maybe with gMax?
The *.par files are simple text files, but is there also some tuturial that explains which parameter does what?

One more thing: Isn't it possible to make FMS7 Add-ons compatible with FMS8? I mean, there are so many add ons, and no one of them works with FMS8, so all people will stay with FMS 7? Isn't there a chance that the programmer of FMS can make the old FMS7 plane files compatible? Would be great if you can fix this!(I really don't know how much of work this is, so excuse my request if it would be something like a Sisyphean task)

Regards,
Harry :)

Hi

You can try and get RCCAD @
it is not full version but if you like it you might want to buy it
and as far as I know they are busy with a converter for beta 7 to fms 8

Hi!

Thanks for the answer, I'll try this program.

How can I change the performance of a plane? I mean things like speeds and so. Because in the *.par file are no entrys for such things(or at least I didn't find anything like this).

I'm trying to make a paraplane(Graupner Sky Surfer). Is there any aircraft type specially for paraplanes?

Harry :)

That I do not know ,

but to make the planes go faster , look in the par file some ware at the top there should be some thing about
(max thrust ) or motor size , try to adjust that , I will have a look and let you know what version are you running Alpha 8
or beta 7

So, I've now tried this RC CAD. But you can't work with this demo, the most things don't work.
Isn't there any other software to edit *.x files???
I've looked in Google, but couldn't find anything!

Harry

Hi,

there is still a missing link for me.

I understand that with metasequoia I can design the aircraft and generate two types of files: *.mqo and *.x

The *.x I understand would be used by FMS+DirectX for presenting the aircraft on the screen.

The second file seems to contain the aerodinamic parameters of the aircraft. But it seems that FMS cannot directly translate from a *.mqo file the behavior of the simulated airplane. FMS requires a *.par file for doing that.

In this same forum I have seen some directions as to how to map a .mqo file into a .par one. But, why is that FMS does not do the mapping by itself?

How is that most of the people designing in Metasequia finally manages to fly in FMS?

in advance, many thanks

ramestica,

The .mqo to .x controls how the model looks. The .par file controls how it flys. They are very loosely connected. Start out using another model's .par file by finding one that flies close to what you want and renaming it to your model. Then tweak it for more lifelike performance. You can spend a lot of time figuring it out from scratch.

ggunners,

during the past two days I have learn a lot, specially by using your excel tool. Thanks for that!

I was expecting too much from all these no-money software tools. 3 days ago I was sure that Metasequoia would do the [Ixx, Iyy, Izz] calculation for me! Imean, plus a density function it should be very near of being able of doing that.
