Tutorial on ParEdit and Building Your Own Model

Hey,

Does anyone have a link to tutorial on how to build your own model for FMS? I've seen ParEdit, but how does one get a picture into it. Also how are things configured like dimensions, kind of engine (thrust), etc. etc.

I was thinking you should be able to take front, top, side, bottom, and back pictures of the plane and have par-edit generate the 3D image. Then somehow go in and tell ParEdit the scale of each region (in cm, eg.).
Then tell it the trust characteristics as well as pitch-yaw-roll axis moments of inertia.

Just seems like there ought to be a tutorial on how to do this. If anybody has one or would like to write something up, I'd be glad to test flight the instructions -)):lol:

Editing the .par file is half of building an FMS model. The other half is using MetasequoiaLE (also free) to create the 3D model and image mapping photos onto the 3D model. See the "sticky" tutorial at the top of the Models forum.

As always, copying another model .par file that is close to the same airplane is a great way to start. I then pretty much go from left to right across the tabs and make sure the parameters I put in the .par are accurate to the 3D model.

Once a rough .par is created, the tough part begins which is getting feedback from people to help refine the last 5% of the changes to the .par to make the airplane come alive.

Thanks. Well I think I'm on my way.

One other question. Is there a way to actually measure the moments or inertial. I think I know enough about physics to figure this out, but figured if some has a tool or well defined procedure that has worked that would be great.
