Modding a Model Slo V

Modding a Model Slo V

Postby hbaird » Fri Apr 23, 2010 11:20 am

I just got and put together a new Slo V. I also am flying the Slo V on FMS. The FMS model looks like the wing is max forward. How can I mod the .par file and move it back in small increments so I can learn more before I fly for real? I would like to start off with more stability.
More data: I changed the Pitch Inertia Moment Iyy from 0.2 to 0.1 believing this is moving the CG forward. This did what I expect moving the wing aft will do. The pitch axis is more stable now. How can I get my plane to fly this way?

A farther back CG will make your airplane more sensitive to turns and stalls but make it more lively in the roll axis. A more forward CG will make the model more stable in the roll axis and cause the airplane to feel a bit heavy on the elevator.

What you did in FMS did not adjust the CG. The CG is adjusted in the MAIN section of the FMS .par file. There are 3 parameters for CG, X, Y and Z.

* * * SORRY, THESE ARE THE METASEQUOIA AXIS, SEE FMS PAR BELOW * * *

+X = move CG right, -X = move CG left
+Y = move CG down, -Y = move CG up
+Z = move CG forward, -Z = move CG back

In your case, play with small increments of CG Z+ fore and Z- aft. Something like 0.01 +/- or perhaps less.

Z just pushed the model down into the runway.

Yep, sorry, the Metasequoia and FMS axis are a bit different.
Here's the FMS .par version.

0 m Center of gravity X (+=Forward)(-=Backward)
0 m Center of gravity Y (+=Right)(-=Left)
0 m Center of gravity Z (+=Below)(-=Above)

Thanks again for the help. The Slo V pitched up with the power low to off. Moving X 0.04 flattened out the pitch responce and I hope made it fly like I moved the wing back about that amount. I have one ready to fly but winds are too high for me and will stay that way for the next ten days.

You can also adjust the down angle on the MOTOR but you will need to use Mr. Masuoka's .par editor to make that happen unless you're real good with trig.
