Credit where credit's due... - Notice to all model designers...

Just a little request from one designer to the rest...

If you use part of another persons model for your own design, it would be nice if the work could be credited in the info text or something similar.

I have just downloaded a new model for FMS 8.1 that was a slightly modified and repainted version of one of my own designs!

We all do this and share the results for free, but it is pretty annoying when somebody else is passing off your work as their own!

Play fair out there and fly safely!

It pays to be S.M.A.R.T.

I agree mikethewanderer,

Especially if you start with someone's design, I have, asked for and received permission and then credited the author for one of my models.

However, I think any model builder would be OK borrowing a few pieces here and there if they're not a significant portion of the total model. Maybe a landing gear or cockpit area. It you grab a substantial piece, give the other person credit.

It takes many hours to create these models, almost as long as building them in real life. And while it's not a big deal because no money is changing hands, it is still good to recognize other peoples hard efforts and talents.

I also agree.

All my micro and sub-micro heli models which I have done lately for FMS have certain characteristics that make them unique to MIA and I would not mind if someone repainted the model, we do that often on our real models and it is kind of neat to see variations, so long as credit is given to original model designer.

Given that RC models tend to be be less complex than some of the scale war birds I've seen, details like making servos, engines, wheels, landing gear, control mechanics are things that take a lot of effort and time but add that touch of realism and this is where you can really enjoy a model.

So please try to be considerate. FMS is a wonderful product and if we are cool about giving proper credit where due it should entice the further development and more and more cool models for all.

Special thanks to the creators of FMS and Metasequoia, and others for the tools and models we can enjoy.

Humankind has the big fortune of having the gift of intelligence, without it some of us will not have the technology that alows us to enjoy the world we live in. Never take the beauty in such for granted.
