If you are asking if you need to install addtional software on your computer to run a usb device the answer is generally no.

Most of the usb interfaces that are available configure as a joystick. Windows has built in drivers, HID or Human Interface Device, and will automatically install when the usb device is plugged in.

Once it is configured then FMS will see a joystick so just set FMS up for jostick input and away you go.

Don't know if anyone can help? My laptop doesn't have a serial port. However the wire I bought, which plugs into my transmitter only has a serial output. Can I simply buy a converter, which will turn the serial output into a USB output then run it as normal??

I don't want to buy a wire then find it doesn't work!!

I have sold a couple of Serial PIC Interfaces that are used with a USB to Com port converter. In general, the Mecer USB devices works fine.

However, not all USB to Com port converters work well. If possible, try to test one before you buy.
