It sounds like your DirectX origin is offset. I don't know how this happens or what could cause it.

Please load the world.scn. Then hit the "P" key to pause. Then load a model and hit the "I" key. Now using the numeric keypad, rotate around the model until you are as low as you can be and directly sideways to the model i.e. wing on, full sideways view. The model should be floating above the ground. Take a screenshot to share with us if you can. If any part of the model is below ground, we have a mystery.

What graphics card and driver version are you running? The latest Directx? It's really a mystery to me.

Thanks again. Below is a link to a screen shot. It looks to me as if the rear wheel is partly below the ground. Your suggested re-orientation of the model using the numeric keypad doesn't work with any of the models I've tested with it. v7 or v8! Also, some of the v8 models, when the engine is cut back to tick over, won't throttle up again. I'm beginning to think it's my computer that's the problem.
The computer was built for me in April. It has a Radeon 9250 Sapphire 128Mb 64-bit graphics card with driver v12-029 and graphics by ATi
Does this help?
Regards

I thought it might be useful to send you links to two .par files - you may be able to spot some significant difference between them. They are both v8 files. The Spitfire works perfectly; the Triplane has several problems.

Guess what. There's nothing wrong with your computer. Actually, the Spit .par was in worse shape than the Tripe. The Tripe only needed a small adjustment to the breaking load of the tail gear. The Spit was all messed up. Ailerons too large, prop not in the right place, wings too far forward, etc.

I'm putting up a link to the modified .par files on my website for a short time. Just right-click on the link and then "Save Target As" to the C:/Program Files/FMS/Model directory.

You'll have to rename "AustinTripe.par" to "Austin Tripe.par" with the added space as my web servers don't do spaces well.

The moral of the story is, there may be nothing wrong with your computer or FMS, just the model itself. If you find others that do not work, try editing their .par files to fix them. It works for me.

Mr. Masuoka's wonderful .

Thanks! Both files worked. I'll try to edit some of the other .par files, but that may be a bit beyond me! Never-the-less, I'll give it a go. It's good to know that the problem wasn't with me or my computer.
Thanks for all your help. What would we do without the internet? :D
