PARedit application error

I've just installed 8.5, which is working well. I've changed from 7 to use the new (more straight forward) PARedit program.
Here's my problem. When I start the prog (d-click .exe in Win explorer) i get a message "Exception EDirectXError in module PAREDIT.EXE at 000604D3. No windowable devices were found".
My computer is running Win98SE.
Really appreciate any help

Sounds like a DirectX error. Make sure you upgrade to the latest DirectX for your operating system.

I have been using a paredit program downloaded from a Jappanese site.
Thank you for your help, I will upgrade my directX & try again.

I actually like Mr. Masuoka's ParEdit program quite a bit. Having the tables the 3D view and the text view all available in the same interface is quite nice.

Sure,

Checking directx and many other graphical things can be accomplished by running the dxdiag diagnostic tool on your windows computer.

Go to the [Start] button, choose [Run], type "dxdiag" without the quotes and then click [OK].

The tool may ask if you want to make sure the drivers have WHQL digital signatures. Choose yes or no based on your preference. Signatures are verified by Microsoft.

The first screen on the [System] tab, shows your computer type, speed, amount of memory and the DirectX version, 9.0c is the latest.

The [Display] tab is useful for finding out details about your graphics card.
