PIC12C508A - Can I make this work ?

Postby Brad » Fri Nov 16, 2001 8:04 pm

HI,
I'm trying to use a PIC12C508A instead of the 12C508. I know the difference is to do with the oscillator, when I try and program the chip (using ICProg) I get a message asking if I wish to use Oscillator Calibration Value of 0FFF, regardles of whether I answer Yes or No the programming fails at address 000h.

Anyone offer some source code for the 12C508A ?

Thanks in advance

Brad

Are you using the same 508 chip? It can only be programmed once, it isn't a flash or eeprom device.
As for compatability, they should be the same functionally.
Address 000h is the first program word address, so this basically means your programming sequence isn't starting. Buy another pic and try again. The source files are included with fms too.

Thanks for the help, I didn't realise the 508A was a one-time program.
I tried a new chip, when I program first time it confirms validation, set code-protect off.
If I now try and read the chip it reads OK but all values come back as 000.

Hi, Problem solved, Despite not being able to read the code, it must have been good as my interface is working fine.
So for future the PIC12C508A works fine.
Thanks for all advice and help
