"Windows Protection Fault Must restart computer" - Serial Interface used to work but not any more Please help

I built the serial interface and have been using it on both Beta 6 and Beta 7 .I started running Beta 7 as soon as it was available. I am running FMS under Windows ME. It has been several weeks now since I last used FMS and tonight when I started the program and then turned on my TX I had no control. I then went to verify that the resources were still set and they were. Next I attempted to verify the calibration and as soon as I move anything on the transmitter the computer locks up displays the message "Windows Protection Error You Must Restart Your Computer" on an all blue screen. This now happens every I try to use my transmitter. I can use the USB game joystick just fine with FMS .I have left the serial interface plugged in every since I built it but have not flown FMS in several weeks. Please help.
