I'm only new to the RC simulator field but I recently solved the calibration issue I was having. I found that once I installed the USB interface cable driver for my Twister RC transmitter, I first had to go to windows control panel and select the "game controller" device there and do its own calibration before starting FMS.
Once I had loaded FMS - analog control / joystick interface / mapping & calibration, I had to remap every control surface by trial and error, and only then did the game's own calibration - and it has worked perfectly ever since.
FYI: the mapping I used for my 4 channel Twister RC was: 4, 2, 1 (inv), 3, 4, 2, 1 (inv), 3
