I've also got DX5e problems.
Configuration:
DX5e -> soundcard -> SmartPropo Plus Generic -> PPJoy -> FMS
I can hear clear PPM buzz on the microphone input, so the Tx is ok. I can even hear clear frequency changes when the sticks are moving. However SPP does not recognize the data stream

I can send a wav of my Tx for testing.

I am not familiar with the DX5 so I don't know what type of modulation it uses (PPM or PCM). Whichever it is, you must make sure that SmartProPlus is set to the same or it will not work.
