Futaba Skysport 4 RF-module... - How to switch of the RF-module?

Hi!

I'm using the serial interface with the Futaba Skysport 4, and everything is working all right (the parallel interface causes too much jitter)...my problem is that I want to switch of the RF-module while flying in FMS - is this possible?
I've heard from someone that short circuits some pins on the Tx DIN plug - maybe pin 3 and 5 - will this work with Futaba also...

Shorting pins 4 and 5 (NOT PIN 3 !) works for some but not all Futaba Txs. I've not tried a Skysport 4 so I'm not sure if that's one.

Removing the crystal always works without fail on all Txs.

Hmm...are we talking about pin 4 and 5 when looking direct on the back side of the Tx's trainer pin layout?

I have not tryed to short these pins as pin 4 is the signal pin...maybe it can damage the output?

If we are talking about the pin layout for the plug it would be pin 2 and 1 instead of pin 4 and 5 respectely..quite a difference hmm!

But is there a way to power the Tx from outside (maybe the PC) with same principle as when running trainer/teacher mode and trainer Tx is off?

I have thoughts of removing the Tx crystal, but have heard of the posibility that the output transistor drive runs hot because of all the resonance frequencies that are generated...

Any comments to this?

I run my Transmitter from a remote power supply.
I have an Airtronics RD6000. On it you connect a 9.6 VDC input (as if comming from the teachers radio) to the pins and it activates the display screen and all controls without activating the RF section of the transmitter (The radio's power switch stays turned off).

Not sure what pins would do this on your transmitter.
Or if your radio does this.

What steps are normally taken if the radios are used to do actual Buddy box training at a flying field. If the teachers radio supplies the voltage to the students radio (The student does NOT turn on his radio power switch) and the controls become active on the students radio, it should be possible to do the same thing when on FMS.

the futaba trainer cord set up also suggests that the students tx should be left off --- so remote powering should be possible. i think we have diffrent suggestions because of varying pin numbering and veiwing being used--may i suggest the above for further advise?
