HiTec Flash 5 and serial ports? - I'm clueless

I've got a Flash 5x and I'd like to use it to control the FMS sim. I have no idea where to start. The help files seem like they were written for engineers only. Do I need to build some kind of cord that connects from my buddy input on the receiver to a serial port on back of my PC?

If so, can I buy this stuff at Radio Shack and how do I find out what wires to splice together? Thanks for any info you can provide.
