JR x-378 serial interface for XP - can I build it myself?

I have been looking for schematics for a serial interface for my JR x-378 to use with XP but the only information I can find
implies that I need to use a PIC circuit.
Can I build this myself with little electronics knowledge or do
I need to buy a ready programmed one?
How are they programmed?

It all depends on your electronic skills. The most difficult part will be to program the PIC micro controller, as you will need a programmer.

Thanks for your reply Eric, I have had a good look through your excellent web site and I think programming a PIC is a bit heavy for me going by your information, so I'll have to get a
ready made unit.
