direct access to the ports for winXP/2000

Hi guys,
I know nothing about programing but the link below may give some ideas about accessing the ports. It looks simple to be done.



Is there any way to enable the option
resources ; mapping/calibration
for the paralel/serial interface, so we can see if porttalk works?

I have tryed some direct access software to run over winXP and they DO work.
Now to do some testing we need to enable the buttoms under controls > Analog control then selecting any parallel/IRQ - interface.
It would be nice to run FMS over win2000 or XP.
Any help will be very apreciated.

That would be nice if we could have a command line option allowing to do this. I'm sure it exists somwhere

Heres the simple suggestion. Why doesnt FMS create the software that works with Windows XP? Or a downloadable upgrade from windows 98? I have tryed downloading these different port talk and I/O interupters and I cant get the damb thing to work. I dont know how to write code either or know where to go in command prompts to insert this stuff and I dont want to ruin my computer to do it either. C'mon FMS cant you do somthing for us?

The reason why the simple serial/parallel interfaces are not supported above Win98, is that these operating systems were created to give the best performance/stability possible.

To be able to ensure stability, these OS does not allow third party access to devices. By blocking third party devices, the OS can make sure that there are no conflics, and also to ensure that the resources can not be used by more than one process at a time.

This is possibly the reason why FMS creators disabled these functions under certain operating systems. It would be bad programming practice to override the systems that guarantee the OS stability.

As far as I know, FMS is one of the only simulators where one can actually select from five different interface devices. Not even the top of the range RealFlight G2 comes close to FMS.

There are a lot of third party software that will allow a user to use the simple serial/parallel interfaces, but what would the reaction be if the operating system now keeps on craching when FMS is run.

Why not go for the PIC interface instead? They work great, and not very difficult to construck or buy.
