What's a good beginner model? - What model most matches an R/C trainer

Which model should I pick to best simulate flying a small gasoline engine model airplane trainer? You know, these little high-wing Cessna-like planes they sell in hobby shops.

Should I pick the FMS Cessna? Or the slowflyer? Or the PicoCub? Or what?

Thanks, and pardon a beginner's dumb questions!

Hi Chall,

Fifteen years ago I flew the Forster trainer (span 1.8 m.) and the Lazy Ace (span 2 m.). I haven't flown for quite a long time, but will be soon again. I downloaded FMS to have some pre-training for flying the Multiplex Big Lift I'm finishing at the moment.
To my humble opinion the Super Cub resembles the behavior of the common rc-trainer pretty well. (With common rc-trainer I mean the ones with a span of 1.5 m. or somewhat bigger.)
The Slowfly and the SilkyWind400 are too slow (as they should, because they resemble park flyers).
The Skyhawk is too small and somewhat speedy for a trainer.

Good luck,

Henri

Hiya,

I'll go along with you there Henri, SuperCub is the closest match to what you are asking for Chall.

I have modified the PAR file of a plane to closely resemble my Tiger Trainer 40. It's got a 1.8m wingspan, and runs on a Thunder Tiger 42 motor. Flying characterisitcs are very close to the real thing, with the exception of gliding (dead stick). The throttle should be left open about 1/8 to get the same effects as in real life.

I just wanted to add that Eric's Tiger Trainer has been most helpful. It's easier to fly than the Super Cub but more challenging than the slow flyers. I'm still struggling to get in full control of it, but I'm making progress.
