rayspan, yes with nearly 60 fps on my machine fms is far from stuttering. Many models are a bit unrealistic fast, yes.
But that depends more on the settings in the .par-file than on the fps... ;)

I've seen models with 80N-thust and all drag-coefficients set to Zero (or nearly Zero)!!! Flying more than 250m/s. That is crap!

I think many model-builder just make it easy and copy .par-files from other models without adjusting it to the real RC-model. This is sad.

I've tested the Catalyst 3.6 with no sufficient change in the problem. I still get a freezed screen when low to the ground.

Strange, Catalyst 3.6 has some approvements to some other games and increases graphics speed a bit (in most cases). And it works extremely well on my machine. :D

Maybe it depends on how you install it: you should REALLY fist UNINSTALL any old display driver!
I've forgotten that with Catalyst 3.4 and got problems (system slowed down), after reinstall correctly they were gone... :)

lego,
Have you tried the Catalyst 3.7 drivers yet?

If so, could you let us know if they fix the FMS freeze problem?

I am using Catalyst 3.7.

FMS still freezes when the ground is in view.

XPav,
Thanks for the feedback. I will be trying 3.8 this week (keeping my fingers crossed).

I have an 9600 Radeon and I just installed the Catalyst 3.8 drivers.

FMS now starts with a Blue Screen of Death and reboots the computer.

Much worse than the 3.7 driver which was useless.

It's been 3 months now since I upgraded (downgraded) to my ATI card, 3 months I could not use FMS.

I miss flying!

Same here, 9700TX and upgraded the Catalyst released Oct 8.

Blue screen of death and must reboot ...

WTF?

I NEED TO FLY!

My setup:

-catalyst 3.7
-ATI AIW 9000 Pro
-AMD 2500+
-ASUS A7V8X-X
-FMS Beta 7

FMS works great...I don't know about FPS (how do you check that) but it rarely crashes (only when loading some models) and it seems really slow.

Perhaps it is a setting in the control panel? My Direct3D is set to the following:

Main Settings: Custom
Aniosotropic Filtering: Applicaition Preference
SMOOTHVISION: Application Preference
Texture Preference: High Quality
Mipmap Detail Level: High Quality
Wait for Vertical Sync: Application Preference
TRUFORM: Application Preference

Please report your findings.

Good luck!

PS: Any bad effects from the 3.8 drivers? I've heard of some horror stories:

opps,

I meant to say that it seems really SMOOTH, not "seems really slow".

Long day....

Catalyst 3.9 came out today. I can't wait to try it when I get home, but I'm not too optimistic.

I just installed Catalyst 3.9.

More Blue Screens of Death!

I guess I have to give up on ever using FMS again!
